One of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoffs has announced its two leads. According to a Max press release, Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters, Wreck) and Dexter Sol Ansell (Emmerdale, The Midwich Cuckoos) will play the two titular roles in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. Claffey will portray Dunk while Ansell will play Egg.
Based on a trilogy of novels entitled The Tales of Dunk and Egg, The Hedge Knight follows a pair of unlikely heroes 100 years before the events of Jon Snow’s Westeros. Ser Duncan the Tall, a courageous but naive knight, is accompanied by his loyal squire, Egg. Together, the two friends embark on a myriad of adventures, becoming a type of mythos in this rich lore.
According to the press release, the series is written and executive-produced by George R.R. Martin (The Winds of Winter, A Song of Ice and Fire) and Ira Parker (The Never, The Last Ship). House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal, Owen Harris (Mrs. Davis, Kill Your Friends), Sarah Bradshaw (Last Christmas, The Mummy), and Vince Gerardis (Jumper, House of the Dragon) are additional executive producers.
The series was originally announced as the second prequel from the GOT universe back in 2021, following the reveal of House of the Dragon. A litany of potential projects remains on the horizon including a series centered on Nymeria, the legendary queen, warrior, and founder of Dorne. There’s also the live-action turned-animated title, 9 Voyages (working title), set to follow the acclaimed Sea Snake, Lord Corlys Valeryon, portrayed by Steve Toussaint (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Judge Dredd) in House of the Dragon. A separate animated series was also planned, but there have been no developments regarding its status.
The most recent spinoff announcement was a sequel series following Kit Harington’s (Marvel’s The Eternals, Modern Love) Snow after the events of the original series.
While The Hedge Knight is a few years from its debut, GOT fans can get their fix when the second season of House of the Dragon premieres on Sunday, June 16 on HBO and streaming on Max.
