In an exclusive report by Deadline, now-grown child actor Josh Hutcherson (ZATHURA: A Space Adventure, The Hunger Games) has been cast for a leading role in the upcoming, yet to be titled, HBO comedy series. The show is created, executive produced, and headlined by emerging powerhouse Rachel Sennot (Bottoms, Shiva).
The announcement comes after Miles Robbins (Blockers, Halloween), who is also a musician and the son of famous actress Susan Sarandon (The Client, Rick and Morty), was cut after HBO picked up the series. Robbins played in the pilot, but HBO made changes to the storyline and characters after becoming involved.
The show will entail the antics of a co-dependent friend group who have been separated. The group reunites and explores how the time apart and new dynamics have changed them.
In a previous article by mxdwn, the Executive Vice President of HBO and Max Comedy Programming, Amy Gravitt, was quoted as saying, “Rachel is as hilarious as she is charming. ..She has captured the comedy and the beauty that happens when friendships collide with our best-laid plans. We’re thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with this talented team and this exquisite cast.”
The cast that has been confirmed to date is Odessa A’zion (Sitting in Bars with Cake, Grand Army), Jordan Firstman (Rotting in the Sun, Dave), and True Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem, Berry’s Batteries).
Per Warner Bros. Discovery press release, Sennott is quoted as saying, “I’m so grateful to Amy and HBO for the opportunity to make this show and the wonderful team that has been a part of creating it. And I’m going to come up with a title soon, I promise!”
Hutcherson won his first award for his co-starring role in the Jumanji sequel Zathura. The movie gained a cult following, although it underperformed at the box office. Hutcherson won the Young Artist Award for “Leading Young Actor”. There is no release date yet for the series, and hopefully, the title will be released soon.
