After coming off her voicing stint in Marvel’s What If…?, Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) has signed on to voice another iconic female character. Netflix has added the Captain America star as their Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider anime, via Deadline.
The new series will be based on the recent Tomb Raider reboot trilogy that started in 2013. The series was first announced in January, and it will pick up after the reboot trilogy ended. The series is set to follow Lara Croft 25 years after she first appeared as she explores new territory.
Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin) will write the series and will also executive produce the anime alongside Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), Stephan Bugaj (Sophia Awakens), and Howard Bliss of dj2 Entertainment. Jacob Robinson (Let’s Not Panic) of Legendary TV will also be an executive producer.
This will not be Lara Croft’s first venture into Hollywood. Angelina Jolie (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) starred at the title role in 2001 and 2003 films, while Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) starred as the title role in the 2018 reboot, with a sequel in the works.
The Tomb Raider games have sold more than 84 million copies over its 25-year history, with 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider being the most recent edition.
A release date for the new anime series has not been confirmed. Tomb Raider will stream exclusively on Netflix.
