“Halt & Catch Fire”, “Turn” Receive Series Orders at AMC

AMC has ordered two new series, both of which are set to premiere next year.

Halt and Catch Fire, starring Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis, follows the technological advancements and personal computing boom of the early 1980s. Pace plays Joe, a visionary, while McNairy and Davis play Gordon and Cameron— an engineer and a prodigy, respectively.

Melissa Bernstein, Chris Cantwell, Mark Johnson, Jonathan Lisco and Chris Rogers will executive produce the series. Lisco will also serve as show-runner.

AMC’s other new series is the historical drama Turn, about a New York farmer (Jamie Bell) who forms a group of spies called The Culper Ring, “an unlikely group…who turn the tide in America’s fight for independence.” The series also stars Burn Gorman, Daniel Henshall, Heather Lind, Angus MacFadyen, Kevin McNally and Seth Numrich.

Turn was adapted from the novel Washington Spies by Alexander Rose, and will be executive produced by Craig Silverstein and Barry Josephson.

With Breaking Bad and Mad Men ending soon, AMC’s new series orders indicate that the network is searching for another successful show to take the place of these established series. In the meantime, the new drama Low Winter Sun premieres Sunday, August 11 at 10 PM.
