‘Gotham’ Sneak Peeks Point Toward Batman Beginning

Gotham returns next Monday and Fox is teasing fans with a sneak peek at what’s to come. In a trailer on Entertainment Weekly viewers are treated to the return of old foes and introduced to what could be a new one. You can view the footage, dubbed “The City Will Be Torn Apart,” below.

“Out of the ashes, a dark hero will rise” a mysterious figure (Alexander Siddig) remarks before a quick cut to David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne stating “If this is my destiny, I do not want to fail.”

Since the premise of Gotham is based around the evolution (or diminishing) of a city rather than the rise of its most famous hero, it is unclear whether Bruce’s full transformation into the Batman will be seen in the show’s run. What’s clear is that, if the new player is Ra’s al Ghul as fans expect, Bruce is preparing to take his next step toward the cowl. With the presence of his doppelganger still keeping fans on edge, a couple League of Shadows style skills probably wouldn’t hurt young Bruce’s chances of surviving long enough to get his Batmobile license.

Another trailer points toward a developed role for the Indian Hills lookalike as well. Judging by that wicked smile and convincing story, Mazouz could have quite the career as a villain if he ever tires of reprising the Caped Crusader.

Additional key points in the teasers come from the appearance of Hugo Strange (BD Wong) and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) as they continue getting up to no good. A separation also appears to be in order between Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) who might finally go full Riddler and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Taylor) who just can’t seem to avoid getting thrown into bodies of water.

With its branding as “Rise of the Heroes” however, the main focus for Season 3B will likely be on Bruce and James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as they prepare to take back their city in their own respective ways. Plenty more questions remain to be answered in the latter half of the season, so fans are advised to not trust anything at face value. After all, pretty much everyone is a crook in Gotham.

Gotham returns Monday April 24 at 8/7 C on Fox. Stay tuned with mxdwn Television for further information regarding Gotham.
