Spotted: HBO Max renews the 2021 revival of Gossip Girl for the second season according to a press release by HBO Max. The remaining six episodes of season one will be released in November.
A sequel to the original 2006 series, Gossip Girl follows a new generation of New York private school students who are introduced to the new Gossip Girl, nine years after the blog went dark. The series explores how social media and the landscape of New York itself have changed in the intervening years.
The series stars a new cast of New York’s elite with newcomer Jordan Alexander, Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Thomas Doherty (Descendants 2), Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists), Emily Alyn Lind (Revenge), newcomer Evan Mock, Zion Moreno (Control Z), and newcomer Savannah Lee Smith headlining the series.
Gossip Girl had the biggest launch on HBO Max thus far. The series saw record viewership on its opening in July. According to the press release, the series trended number one on Twitter, had 15 billion social impressions, and 5.2 billion social impressions from content on Tik Tok.
Gossip Girl is written, executive produced, and developed by Joshua Safran (Quantico). Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, 2006), Josh Schwartz (The O.C.), Leslie Morganstein (Pretty Little Liars), Gina Girolamo (You), and Karena Evans (P-Valley) are additional executive producers on the series.
The remaining episodes of season one will premiere this November. Gossip Girl can be streamed exclusively on HBO Max.
