Gordon Ramsay, creator and star of the popular show Iron Chef, is known for his high-energy critiques and intense persona thrown around the kitchen. One of his most famous insults, the “idiot sandwich” line, became a hit on the internet and is still quoted to this day. Now, according to TVLine, the meme is becoming the title for Ramsay’s newest show.
The show’s title comes from one of Ramsay’s most iconic moments. In this, he puts two slices on either side of the head of Julie Chen Moonves (Big Brother). He then exclaims to her “What are you?” while holding the bread on her head. “An idiot sandwich,” she responded. This moment comes from a comedy sketch that Ramsay participated in on the Late Late Show with James Corden. Ramsay, Corden, and Chen Moonves were taping the sketch Hell’s Cafeteria as a play off of Ramsay’s show Hell’s Kitchen. While they were taping and having some fun, Ramsay picked up the two pieces of bread and coined the iconic phrase.
Ramsay also noted to People that the meme somewhat haunts him every single day. “Wherever I go, there’s some young kid somewhere that wants to be called an ‘idiot sandwich,” he tells People.
The chef posted about the new show on his Instagram story, including the details that it will be filmed in Las Vegas starting in November. This was posted along with the application form. The new show’s application description reads: “The person whose sandwich impresses Chef Ramsay the most, will walk away with a cash prize and the ultimate title, being crowned Gordon Ramsay’s Idiot Sandwich!” Ramsay also added, “Are you an Idiot Sandwich? If so, can you prove it to me live?” when posting about the new show on his Instagram story. He then added “You don’t need to be a chef to apply.” sparking an interesting twist to this new show’s concept.
‘Idiot Sandwich’ is set to start filming in November.
