Goodbye and Good Luck, Charlie

Deadline is the first to report that the hit Disney Channel show Good Luck Charlie will be ending after the current season.

Good Luck Charlie follows the Duncans, a Denver family with two high schoolers, a middle schooler, and a toddler.  Bridgit Mendler stars as Teddy, Charlie’s older sister who is navigating her way through her teenage years and leaving videos for Charlie with advice on surviving childhood with their insane family.  PJ, the older brother played by Jason Dolley, tries to find direction as he nears the end of his teenage years.  Bradley Steven Perry plays Gabe, the middle school-aged brother who is an incurable prankster.  Finally, the show’s title character Charlie, played by Mia Talerico, brings the whole family together.  In season three, Logan Moreau is introduced as the new baby brother, Toby.

The show has great ratings that have held steady since the show’s premiere in 2010.  According to Huffington Post, the resulting movie “Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas” became the most-watched live-action cable movie of the year.  The show also helped to launch Mendler’s singing career, her first single “Ready or Not” landed on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012.

Huffington Post reports that the show will be ending after the fourth season, which is currently airing.  However, these new episodes will air through the year into 2014. A Disney Channel spokesperson said in a statement, “The cast and crew are superb and we will look forward to the big finale episode the creative team is planning.”
