Good Luck Charlie to Feature Family with Same-Sex Parents

TV Guide reports that in the new season of the Disney Channel hit Good Luck Charlie will have an episode in which the Duncans meet a family with two moms.

In the episode, Charlie (Mia Talerico) goes on a play-date with a new friend.  When the friend arrives at the Duncan’s house, it is revealed that the child has two mothers.  This is not an issue for Charlie’s parents (Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Kramer), but the Duncans are very hard with whom to make friends.  The friendship is put to the test when one of the mothers chats with Amy Duncan and the other is stuck listening to Bob’s boring stories.

This will be the secondary story of the episode.  Most of the episode will center around Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) and her best friend Ivy as Ivy prepares to leave for college in this final season of Good Luck Charlie.

Dinsey is aware that this episode will be groundbreaking.  A Disney Channel Spokesperson says,  “This particular story line was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisers.  Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”

Disney Channel already tested the audience’s response last year with its on-air social outreach campaign “Make Your Mark.” In one segment, a teen with two moms was featured, this decisions was called a “big step forward” by GLAAD.
