The award season was in full effect kicking off with the 2025 Golden Globes hosted by Nikki Glaser (The Roast of Tom Brady, FBoy Island) making her the first solo female to host the event. Before the night of the awards began, the stars took the red carpet at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California with Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo (Widows) and Ariana Grande (sweetener) turning heads with their stunning designer gowns. Timothee Chalamet (Dune, A Complete Unknown) stood out with a blue scarf paired with his suit. The red carpet showcased other stars such as Kerry Washington (Scandal, The Six Triple Eight) and Ali Wong (Always Be My Maybe, Beef).
Some notable moments included Challengers star Zendaya sparking engagement rumors by wearing a significant diamond ring on her left hand, drawing attention to viewers with her fashion choice of a burnt-orange Louis Vuttion ballgown.Beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST, the show had Glaser greeting the audience and joking about canceling their Paramount+ subscription after the show was over. Glaser praised the audience full of stars for their talent and how they can do anything except tell the country who to vote for, referring to the results of the 2024 election and joking about how terrified she is that there may not be an election next year.
“Some of the notable TV winners of the night included FX’s Shogun which won all four of its nominations. It coveted Best Male and Female Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada (John Wick: Chapter 4) and Anna Sawai( Pachinko, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), respectively. Sanada played Lord Toranaga while Sawai played his loyal translator, Mariko. According to VegasInsider.com, Hiroyuki became the first Asian actor to win the award. Their costar, Tadanobu Asano, won Best Supporting Actor as Lord Yabushige. The series won the biggest prize for Best Series — Drama.
On the comedy side, HBO’s Hacks won Best Series — Comedy and scored Jean Smart (Sweet Home Alabama, Designing Women) her second straight Globe for the series. Jeremy Allen White (Shameless, The Iron Claw) earned his third straight Best Actor in a Comedy Series win for The Bear, joining Michael J. Fox (Teen Wolf, Spin City) and Alan Alda (M.A.S.H., Marriage Story) as the only other actors to achieve this feat.
For Limited Series, Anthology Series, and Made for TV Movie, Colin Farrell (The Batman, Sugar) won for reprising his role as Oz Cobb in HBO’s The Penguin. A fellow network actress, Jodie Foster (Panic Room, Inside Man), won the Best Actress award for the fourth season of True Detective: Night Country. Netflix’s thriller Baby Reindeer took home the award for Best Limited Series.
“Additionally, Viola Davis (How to Get Away With Murder, Fences) and Ted Danson (The Good Place, A Man on the Inside) were honored at a ceremony on Saturday evening. Davis was presented with the Cecil Be DeMille Award for her outstanding contributions to the entertainment world, while Danson received the Carol Burnett Award for his achievements in television.
