According to an official press release, the fourth season of MGM+’s Godfather of Harlem has released its first teaser. The historical fiction drama is set to premiere on April 13. Created by Chris Brancato (Hotel Cocaine, Narcos), the show follows Forest Whitaker (Waiting to Exhale, Andor) as Bumpy Johnson in the thick of ruling New York’s borough through politics and the streets. The crime drama chronicles the legendary Johnson’s battle to reign supreme over the city’s multiple organized crime syndicates. As he fights to make his mark on the streets, he’s also instrumental in the political stratosphere ensuring his community is taken care of. This season welcomes Rome Flynn (How to Get Away with Murder, Chicago Fire) to the cast as a young Frank Lucas, a worthy adversary for the aging Johnson. Lucas would eventually become a notorious drug kingpin whose rise and fall were chronicled in American Gangster with Denzel Washington (Gladiator II) starring as Lucas. Johnson will also attempt to come to grips with the assassination of his friend, Malcolm X, and his daughter’s alignment with a new political organization, the Black Panthers.
According to the press release, Whitkaer is joined by Ilfenesh Hadera (Baywatch, Deception), Lucy Fry (Night Teeth, Bright), Antoinette Crowe-Legacy (Passing, Kindred), Erik LaRay Harvey (Luke Cage, Proud Mary), Michael Raymond James (Road to Paloma, Game of Silence), Elvis Nolasco (Mr. Crocket, David Makes Man) and Erik Palladino (ER, Suits).
Whitaker and Brancato join fellow executive producers Paul Eckstein (Hoodlum, Narcos), Nina Yang Bongiovi (Roxanne, Roxanne, Fancy Dance), James Acheson (Mad Money, Strange Days), Markuann Smith (The Realtor, Let’s Talk About Pep), Ray Quinlan (Cop Out, Minority Report), Michael Panes (The Architect, The Anniversary Party), and Stephen Schiff (A Little Night Music, The Deep End of the Ocean). Hip-hop producer and artist Swizz Beatz (“Money in the Bank”, “Tambourine”) oversees as the executive music producer. The series is a 20th Television production.
