‘God Of War’ TV Series Adds Mandy Patinkin To It’s Cast As Odin

Diego Montoya is set to be on the opposite side of a revenge story this time around. According to Deadline, beloved Princess Bride actor Mandy Patinkin (Princess Bride, Homeland) is set to join the cast of the upcoming adoption video game series God of War. Patinkin will play the Allfather or Odin, as he is more commonly known.

Deadline has reported that in this depiction, Odin is not a Viking brawler as he is often portrayed, but he is still the most powerful god in the Vesir. This version of Odin is driven by knowledge and is cunning and brutal when it comes to preventing the events of Ragnarok, the end of days in the Norse pantheon. He is the primary antagonist of Kratos, played by Ryan Hurst.

According to Deadline, the series will be helmed by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestart Galacticca, Outlander), as showrunner. The adaptation follows Kratos as he travels with his son to spread his wife’s ashes. His ten-year-old son, Arteus, teaches Kratos to reconnect with his humanity as they travel on a pilgrimage of grief.

Other members of the cast include Terressa Palmer (Warm Bodies, Lights Out) as the goddess Sif, Max Parker (Cobra, Love Sarah) as Heimdal, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Severance, Trapped) , who will play a very different version of Thor than Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Avengers: Endgame).

Deadline has reported that the series has already been given a two-season order. God Of War is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Executive producers will include Moore, Maril Davis (Outlander, For All Mankind), Cory Barlog (God Of War, God Of War II), Naren Shankar (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,The Expanse) Matthew Graham (Gabriel, Under Paris), Asad Qizilbash (Uncharted, The Last Of Us), Jeff Ketcham (Transformers, Just Go With It), Hermen Hulst (Gran Turismo, Until Dawn), Roy Lee (Weapons, The Long Walk) and Brad Van Arragon (Juno, Yellowjackets). Joe Menosky (For All Mankind The Orville), Marc Bernardin (Castle Rock, Alphas), Tania Lotia (The Witcher, The Mighty Nein), and Ben McGinnis (God Of War) will co-executive produce.

According to Deadline, Patinkin’s recent big-screen work includes the upcoming film November 1963. His most notable work in television was on the Showtime series Homeland as CIA agent Saul Benson. He has also starred in series such as Chicago Hope, Brilliant Minds, and The Artist.
