According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC News has temporarily pulled Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes from their positions as anchors for the third hour of Good Morning America. The decision from ABC News president Kim Godwin comes after the media released tabloid pictures linking the two together romantically.
Godwin, who has denied being aware of the relationship, announced the news on a call with other ABC News employees, via a source from The Hollywood Reporter: “I want to say that while the relationship is not a violation of company policy, I really have taken the last few days to think about and work through what I think is best for the ABC News organization. These decisions are not easy, they are not knee-jerk, but they are necessary for the brand and for our priority which, you guys know, are all of us — the people here at ABC.”
Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos will be replacing Holmes and Robach for the time being.
Holmes and Robach have worked for ABC News since 2014 and 2012, respectively, and became GMA3 co-anchors in 2020. Their alleged months-long relationship was revealed by The Daily Mail on November 30th and went viral on social media. The news was a shock to fans and network representatives alike. Both hosts are married with children but separated from their partners.
Following the scandal, Holmes and Robach went on to anchor GMA3 and did not address the situation. Robach has since deactivated her Instagram account and Holmes has removed his Instagram and Twitter accounts.
PageSix has also reported that Holmes “had at least one other alleged affair in addition to his relationships with co-host Amy Robach and producer Natasha Singh,” the latter of which allegedly lasted three years while he was still married. “T.J.’s cheating with ABC staffers was definitely one of the reasons why they were yanked off,” says source via PageSix.
GMA3 airs on weekdays at 1 p.m. Eastern time on ABC.
