Hulu has released a new trailer for the second season of Chad Powers, offering a closer look at the challenges awaiting Russ Holliday and his alter ego when the comedy returns September 3. According to ScreenRant, all six episodes of the upcoming season will be released simultaneously.
Glen Powell (Hit Man, Hidden Figures, Top Gun: Maverick) returns as Russ Holliday, a former star quarterback who assumes the identity of Chad Powers in an attempt to rebuild his football career with the South Georgia Catfish.
The new trailer teases the fallout from the events of the first season, with Ricky Hudson, played by Perry Mattfeld (In the Dark, Shameless, The Idea of You), now aware of Chad’s true identity. As concerns surrounding his behavior grow, Ricky finds herself helping Chad prevent his secret from becoming a major sports scandal.
The footage also teases potential trouble with head coach Jake Hudson, portrayed by Steve Zahn (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, War for the Planet of the Apes, The Righteous Gemstones). During the trailer, Hudson tells Chad that he knows his secret and accuses him of crossing a line, though it remains unclear exactly what the coach has discovered.
Powell stars alongside Mattfeld, Zahn, Quentin Plair (Not Without Hope, Tiny Beautiful Things, Apples Never Fall), Wynn Everett (Palmer, Agent Carter, She Dances), Frankie Rodriguez (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Modern Family, Only Children), Toby Huss (King of the Hill, Halt and Catch Fire, Widow’s Bay), Clayne Crawford (A Walk to Remember, The Perfect Host, Lethal Weapon), Colton Ryan (Dear Evan Hansen, Little Voice, The Girl from Plainville), Keese Wilson (The Stranger, Daisy Winters, Murdaugh: Death in the Family) and Xavier Mills (The Burial, Grief, Is God Is).
Created by Powell and Michael Waldron (Loki, Rick and Morty, The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Chad Powers is inspired by the character created by Eli Manning (The Simpsons, Eli Manning Presents: The Undercovers, For the Win: NWSL) during an episode of ESPN’s Eli’s Places. Powell also serves as an executive producer on the series.
The first season received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, while audiences responded more favorably. Powell also earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance as Russ Holliday and Chad Powers.
Season two of Chad Powers premieres September 3 on Hulu, with all six episodes available at launch.
