Five Glee actors have been promoted to series regular status following last week’s cast reductions, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Melissa Benoist (Marley), Jacob Artist (Jake), Blake Jenner (Ryder), Alex Newell (Unique) and Becca Tobin (Kitty) will be regular members of the Fox series when it returns this fall. This “new class,” which includes two past winners of the Glee Project (Jenner and Newell), recurred throughout much of Glee’s last season.
Though original cast members Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, Amber Riley, Heather Morris and Harry Shum Jr. will not be returning on a regular basis, they may appear as guest stars on the show’s upcoming fifth season. Jayma Mays is another cast member who will likely not be returning, as she recently joined the CBS sitcom the Millers.
These cast promotions indicate that Glee will once again focus on both McKinley High’s current students in Ohio and alumni in New York when the show returns September 19.
