Gina Gershon is set to star in Lifetime’s new original TV movie based on the life of vice president and chief designer of the Versace Group, Donatella Versace, Indiewire reports.
The network movie titled House of Versace will focus primarily on Versace’s rise to the one of fashion’s most elite brands after her brother’s tragic slaying in 1997. Sara Sugarman of Vinyl and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen will direct the script written by Blue Sky’s Rama Stagner.
In addition to Gershon, other cast members include Raquel Welsh, Enrico Colantoni and Colm Feore. The film will be based on Wall Street Journal investigative reporter Deborah Balls book titled “House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival,” which detailed the murder of Gianni Versace and referenced Donatella Versace’s drug addition along with the reemergence of the Versace empire.
House of Versace premieres October 5 on Lifetime, followed by the hour-long Gianni-centric documentary Versace: Beyond the Headlines from CBS EYE productions.
