Gina Carano has reportedly been let go from The Mandalorian due to a controversial social media post, according to The Hollywood Reporter This isn’t the first instance of The Mandalorian star posting on a controversial topic and several fans of The Mandalorian have stated complaints that some of her opinions are allegedly unempathetic. More recently there has been some backlash from Twitter as a trending hashtag was created called #FireGinaCarano. In the past, Carano has made anti-mask posts and commented on voter fraud in the presidential election. Neither of these posts were made without some backlash from the fans. There were some fans trying to defend Carano, while others were joining the #FireGinaCarano movement. Her latest post drawing comparisons between republicans viewpoints and members of the Jewish community during the holocaust struck the final nail in the coffin for most fans and now Lucasfilm has responded.
A spokesperson for Lucasfilm made an announcement concerning Carano, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future, Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” Lucasfilm announced according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Additionally, Lucasfilm was rumored to have plans to create a spinoff series for Carano and announce the series during Disney’s investors day but the controversy surrounding her tweets in November stopped the company from pushing forward with the series. “According to sources, Lucasfilm planned to unveil Carano as the star of her own Disney+ series during a December investor’s day presentation but scrapped those plans following her November tweets,” via The Hollywood Reporter.
