While All American fans await the show’s season three premiere, a potential spinoff series has been announced. According to Shadow and Act, The CW’s teen drama is in early talks to spawn a show centering Geffri Maya’s (East of La Brea, LOCO) character, Simone Hicks.
According to Shadow and Act, Hicks was introduced in season two as a new Beverly High student and casual fling of Michael Evans Behling’s (Empire, Grey’s Anatomy) Jordan Baker. When Hicks discovered she was pregnant, she claimed the star quarterback as being the father. Baker did the right thing in supporting her, and they formed a close bond. That bond was put to the test when the true paternity of her child was revealed to be a former boyfriend. In spite of her dishonesty, Simone and Jordan remained friends and eventually become a couple.
An unknown episode in season three is to act as a backdoor pilot for Simone’s story, according to Shadow and Act. Now a senior at Beverly High, she will begin exploring her options for college. This search will eventually lead to her attending a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), where the spinoff is alleged to be set.
Premiering in 2018, All American was inspired by the life of former NFL player Spencer Paysinger. The show stars British actor Daniel Ezra (A Discovery of Witches, The Missing) as Spencer James, a bright, football standout from south L.A. who transfers to the esteemed Beverly High for better college football prospects. On his pursuit of football stardom, he juggles being the new kid on the block in a world vastly different from Crenshaw. However he soon realizes despite the different area codes, the issues remain the same. The series also stars Taye Diggs (The Best Man Holiday, Brown Sugar), Samantha Logan (Gossip Girl, The Fosters), Greta Onieogou (Fever Pitch, Undercover Grandpa), Cody Christian (Assassination Nation, Teen Wolf), and Bre-Z (Empire, The New Edition Story).
All American was created by April Blair (Christmas Caper, Monte Carlo) who executive produces with Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Supergirl) Sarah Schechter (Free Guy, Pan), Rob Hardy (Stomp the Yard: Homecoming, Motives), and Nkechi Okoro Carroll (Two Weeks Notice, Apartment A). Season three is set to premiere on January 18. Check out the season three trailer below:
