Actors Gavin Leatherwood and Lachlan Watson made appearances throughout Parts 1 and 2 of Netflix’s hugely popular Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. In the show, Leatherwood turned heads in the role of Nicholas Scratch and Watson likewise won fans over as Theo Putnam. According to Deadline, both actors have been promoted to series regulars for Parts 3 and 4.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, based on the Archie comic book series, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” tells the dark coming of age story of Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), a young half-witch living in Greendale who struggles to reconcile her ties to the mortal and supernatural worlds. Part 2 of the series proved monumental for both Watson and Leatherwood’s roles. Watson’s character, who started the series as Sabrina’s close friend Susie Putnam, took ownership of his trans-male identity and reintroduced himself as Theo Putnam in Part 2. Looking ahead to Parts 3 and 4, Theo is projected to encounter a new romantic interest while continuing to protect Greendale from evil forces at Sabrina’s side.
Meanwhile, Leatherwood’s journey ended on a much darker note. Part 2 concluded with Nicholas Scratch, who has been an on-again off-again romantic prospect for Sabrina since his introduction in Part 1, being banished to hell. The stakes were raised even higher given that prior to his banishment, the young warlock entrapped the Dark Lord inside of him in a last-ditch attempt at preventing the apocalypse. Although Leatherwood’s promotion bodes well for the fate of Nicholas Scratch, there is still no guarantee that Sabrina will be able to rescue him and salvage their romantic future.
Leatherwood’s acting career is rooted in theater. At a young age, the actor got his start in the national theater circuit of Peter Pan. He then secured guest roles on a number of popular shows like Grown-ish and NCIS. In addition to his successful acting career, Leatherwood boasts some musical talent and is a singer-songwriter represented by More/Medavoy Management.
Watson also made their acting debut in the theater industry. Their first professional role was Jeffery Skilling’s daughter at Burning Coal Theatre at the age of 10. They also gained attention in the television community for their portrayal of transgender boy on an episode of Drop Dead Diva. The episode, entitled “Identity Crisis” was awarded a GLAAD Media award in 2015. This pairs well with Watson’s history as an outspoken activist for LGBTQ+ rights. Watson is one of the youngest self-identified non-binary actors in Hollywood, and in 2018 appeared on Netflix’s talk segment, “What I Wish You Knew: About Being Non-Binary”.
While there is no confirmed release date for Part 3 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, fans can expect new episodes as soon as late 2019 or early 2020.
