Game Over: Netflix Reveals Reason Behind ‘Alice In Borderland’s’ Silent Exit After The Third Season

Alice in Borderland has played its final card, but it did not end with an explosive finale that fans were expecting, but instead with quiet fade to black as Netflix decide to move forward with other projects. According to Screenrant, the sci-fi thriller series has captivated fans since its debut back in December 10, 2020 focusing on the journey of Arisu, played by Kento Yamazaki (Kingdom, Psychic Kusuo) and other other contestants partaking in dangerous challenges, while at the same time collecting playing cards to advance. The third season has garnered a solid 63% critics’ score with some positive review.

Reported by Screenrant, the finale of the third season reveals Arisu, Usagi, played by Tao Tsuchiya (Sing a Bit of Harmony) and several other participants having survive the final challenge of the game which comes in the form of a giant flood. We also see that Arisu had a chance to speak with the Watchman, played by Ken Watanabe (Godzilla, Inception) behind the games, and wanted to see what choice he will ultimately make in the end, in which he went to be with his wife and return to reality.

Reported by Screenrant, Arisu’s actor, Kento goes on to speak in an interview The Hollywood Reporter back on September 25, 2025, about if there return for a fourth season he would be on board,” And of course if it’s going to continue in some way, I’ll be very much keen to be part of that.” The future of series all depends on its director, Shinsuke Sato (Bleach, Gantz), who currently at the moment  tied up with other projects on their plate.

Stated by Screenrant, the sci-fi thriller at the end ended on a positive note having accumulated an outstanding 25.3 million views and placing 36th in most watch series list. While the cancellation is a major blow to fands, all three seasons of Alice in Borderland are available to stream on Netflix
