ABC is launching another new Marvel series: Inhumans. In a type-cast move, Iwan Rheon – the man who played Ramsay Snow/Bolton – will be portraying “Maximus the Mad” reports Mashable. Maximus is a complex villain, with altered DNA as the result of his and his brother’s childhood exposure to Terrigen Mist, giving them paranormal superpowers. Maximus is devoted to the people of Attilan, but he also harbors a selfish desire for power. Rumors circle about Rheon’s other possible co-stars, and many are expected to be other big-name actors and actresses which could bring some additional initial excitement to another comic-to-television series.
The new show from ABC is the third Marvel series to air after the cancelled Agent Carter and the currently running Agents of SHIELD.
Mashable quoted Inhumans show runner Scott Buck in describing “Maximus the Mad” as simultaneously “likable, charming, tragic and villainous.” While Ramsay Bolton was the villain we all loved to hate, Maximus is a character we will both love and hate. Maximus and his brother Black Bolt were originally created in the 1960s by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and the concept of “Inhumans” was introduced in Season 2 of Agents of SHIELD. The Marvel universe of Inhumans is full of alien interference, coups and wars, advanced technology, and a world so isolated it isn’t even on planet Earth.
Though at first loyal to his brother, Maximus will undoubtedly be given the opportunity to betray him and seize the power he craves for himself: a conflict that Iwan Rheon should be more than familiar with from his experience playing bastard son Ramsay Bolton on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
A unique element of Inhumans will be its premiere: the first two episodes will grace IMAX theaters for two weeks before the series moves to television. Currently Inhumans has its release date set for early September, 2017 per The Hollywood Reporter.
More casting news will be arriving for Inhumans, including possible confirmation of a rumor reported by Screen Rant that an actor from Lost will be joining the show in one of the lead roles, possibly even Black Bolt himself.
