Months after it was confirmed that HBO is developing a possible Jon Snow spinoff series, fans have hypothesized which original series characters they would want to return. According to Comicbook, the actor who portrayed Game of Thrones’ Gery Worm has already ruled himself out. Jacob Anderson (Overlord, Adulthood) is doubtful that his character – who was loyal to Emilia Clarke’s (Marvel’s Severt Invasion, Solo: A Star Wars Story) Daenerys Targaryen – would ever return to Westeros again.
“I think it’d be pretty tense if he did,” Anderson said in an E! News interview. “I think the only way that Grey Worm would show up in that show is to kill Jon Snow.” If memory serves us correctly, Gery Worm guaranteed Jon Snow’s survival on his vow to never see him again. So when Snow was banished to the land beyond the Wall, Grey Worm traveled to Naath creating the necessary distance between the two.
“That was quite a significant condition of [Jon] living, was that I don’t ever want to see your face again I’m gonna go my way. And you’re gonna go your way. I’d be very surprised if we saw Grey Worm again,” Anderson continued via Comicbook.
As of right now, there isn’t much confirmed about the alleged spinoff other than Kit Harington (Marvel’s Eternals, Pompeii) is to reprise the role. While rumors had been swirling early on, the title was actually confirmed this year as it had been in development for much longer. It is clearly further down the Thrones franchise pipeline as George R.R. Martin (The Winds of Winter, Dark Winds) and HBO have several other project plates spinning at once. We received the first season of House of the Dragon this year, which has already been renewed. It was also confirmed that the series focused on the Sea Snake Lord Corlys Velaryon was still in development.
Other prequel series announced include one focused on Princess Nymeria who would come to rule in Dorne; the series based on the novella adventures of Dunk and Egg; and, possibly a show concentrated on the citizens of King’s Landing’s poorest dwelling, Flea Bottom.
Anderson can currently be seen in AMC’s critically-acclaimed adaptation of Interview With The Vampire. The series which aired its season finale this evening has already been renewed for a second season.
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon can be streamed on HBO Max.
