Aside from the incredible cast of characters, Game of Thrones boasts breathtaking scenery and amazing props and costumes. The wonderful aesthetics of the show sometimes make us forget about all the death and danger and wish we could step through our TV or computer screens (depending on how you watch the show) and enter Westeros, as long as you don’t run into Ramsay Bolton.
RSVPster announced on Twitter today that SXSWesteros will be returning to SXSW this year. The Game of Thrones interactive exhibit will run from Friday 3/11 through Sunday 3/13 from 10:30am-5:00pm and again on Monday 3/14 from 9:00am-2:00pm. According to the SXSW schedule, the exhibit will take place in the Old Antones Building in Austin, TX.
Every year SXSWesteros features hundreds of props, costumes, and weapons from the Game of Thrones sets and promises fans a chance to interact with the iconic imagery they see on the small screen. In years past, attendees have had the chance to see pieces from the sets of the upcoming season, sit on the Iron Throne, sword-fight like Arya Stark, and sample a beer named after the Three-Eyed Raven.
Last year, Joanna Scholl, the Vice President of HBO’s advertising, told The Hollywood Reporter that the purpose of SXSWesteros is to “build anticipation and excitement” and “reward fans of the show with a unique experience befitting a technically savvy audience. For us, it is important to continue to find ways to surprise and delight our loyal fan base by making them a part of the world of the show, and they seemed to really love it.”
Like the much anticipated Game of Thrones season 6, few details have been released as to what to expect this year from SXSWesteros. But there probably still won’t be any hint as to Jon Snow’s fate, which is slowly killing us.
For the fans wanting to experience Westeros and get a chance to see props and set pieces from the upcoming season, the SXSW website has all you need to know to register, book a hotel, and plan all aspects of your trip.
