‘Game of Thrones’ Releases Season 8 Trailer

After seven seasons of unexpected twists, turns and violent deaths, Game of Thrones’ fans will no longer need to wait for their next dose of Westeros’ epic battles and betrayals. The landmark series’ eighth and last season will air April 14th, and has just released a long awaited full length trailer now available for streaming, through HBO Now and other online outlets.

Throughout its two-minute run time, the newly released trailer addresses very little about this season’s possible developments, but still manages to tease viewers just enough to keep any diehard fan excited about its upcoming premiere. Although any astute watcher may not have any difficulty guessing what each small reveal will entail for the people and creatures of Westeros.

Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), and Podrick (Daniel Portman) prepare for their highly anticipated battle with the White Walkers. Meanwhile Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) are shown riding with the Unsullied,  leaving a lone Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) to get her first glimpse at a live dragon in another scene.

Following in the same footsteps as the seventh season, Game of Thrones’  season 8 will also be three episodes shorter than previous runs and has been described as being the equivalent of  “six movies” by HBO chief Richard Plepler earlier this year.

The executive also mentioned he understands that the series’ swan song has set the bar higher than any of its other installments and that “everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production.”

But fans not worry that this is truly the end, a recently approved prequel is set to star Naomi Watts, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Alex Sharp, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Ivanno Jeremiah. With S.J. Clarkson directing the pilot and Jane Goldman as showrunner, the Westeros spin-off is intended for a 2020 release.
