Gabrielle Union (Being Mary Jane) is joining the cast of Apple TV+’s drama series, Truth Be Told, for the show’s third season, according to Deadline. The series is an anthology series based on the novel of the same name, written by Kathleen Barber (Are You Sleeping).
The series stars Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) as Poppy Scoville, who has a true crime podcast dedicated to truth and justice. She risks her life in order to get to the bottom of the cases she discusses on her podcast. Each season has a new case, with new guest stars opposite of Spencer. Season one guest starred Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Lizzie Caplan (Now You See Me 2), while season two guest starred Kate Hudson (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days). This season it will be Union as Eva, an outspoken high school principal who becomes involved in an incident that is discussed on the podcast, per Deadline.
However, there is a recurring cast around Spencer that includes Mekhi Phifer (Dawn Of The Dead), Michael Beach (If Beale Street Could Talk), Tracie Thoms (The Devil Wears Prada), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us), Haneefah Wood (Nurse Jackie), Katherine LaNasa (The Campaign), and Tami Roman (When Love Kills: The Falicia Blakely Story).
Spencer has been nominated for two NAACP Image awards for the series, one for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Limited-Series or Dramatic Special in 2020 and another for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series in 2022. Nichelle Tramble-Spellman (The Good Wife) won a NAACP Image award for the show for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series in 2020.
