After completing production for The Night Agent’s last season, Gabriel Basso (A House of Dynamite, The Strangers: Chapter 1) has joined the cast of Apple TV’s upcoming true-crime psychological thriller series, Guilty Creatures, according to Deadline.
Basso will be a regular on the Sarah Delappe (The Regime, Bodies Bodies Bodies) series adaptation of Mikita Brottman’s (Couple Found Slain: After a Family Murder, An Unexplained Death: The True Story of a Body at the Belvedere) popular true crime novel.
Based on Mikita Brottman’s true crime book Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida, the series takes place in the Florida Panhandle. It explores the sex and murder present in the region, focusing on the minds of individuals involved in a passionate affair that ultimately leads to a murder. Garner and Pullman are reportedly set to portray the two young lovers, whose adultery contrasts with their religious beliefs. The story examines their complicated relationship and the psychological consequences of living with a murder for 18 years.
The stars that have been announced for Guilty Creatures are Julia Garner (Inventing Anna, The Fantastic Four: First Steps), Lewis Pullman (Remarkably Bright Creatures, Lessons in Chemistry) and Maddie Hasson (We Summon the Darkness, I Saw the Light). Mary-Louise Parker (Fried Green Tomatoes, Boys on the Side) was just recently announced as a recurring character. Apple TV has not shared any details about the characters the actors will play.
Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, The Finest Hours) serves as director for the series. Stuart Zicherman (American Sports Story, How to Talk to Girls) will serve as showrunner. Garner executive produces for the series. Guilty Creatures is produced by Tomorrow Studios (One Piece, Cowboy Bebop), an ITV Studios partner. The series was developed through Tomorrow Studios’ first-look deals with Garner’s Alma Margo and Gillespie’s Fortunate Jack Productions.
