FXX’s First Original Series, Chozen

FXX has ordered its first original series. Chozen, an animated comedy, tells the story of a gay, white rapper who has just been released from prison and re-enters the world with “a new message and new skills, which he will use in his quest for redemption and domination.”

The series will be produced by the team behind HBO’s Eastbound and Down, which will come to an end after its fourth season this fall. Danny McBride, Jody Hill and David Gordon Green will all serve as executive producers, along with Archer’s Adam Reed and Matt Thompson. Writer Grant Dekernion also executive produces and will provide the series’ rap songs.

Chozen’s main character will be voiced by Saturday Night Live’s Bobby Moynihan. Other voice actors on the series will include McBride himself, as well as Michael Pena, Hannibal Buress, Kathryn Hahn, Nick Swardson and Method Man.

Nick Grad, president of FX’s original programming, calls Chozen “an outrageous and ballsy comedy, but also a very smart examination of the rap culture.”

FXX, a companion network to FX, is geared toward a younger demographic and will focus mainly on comedy series. It will begin broadcasting on September 2, and Chozen will premiere in early 2014.
