The FXX original adult animated series Archer has received a series renewal for a 13th season on the cable network, according to Variety. Archer, alongside another long-running FX comedy in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has long been a fan-favorite series for many comedy television fans and FX original fanatics. First premiering on FX in 2016, the series has since transitioned to its sister network in 2017 and is currently in the midst of airing its 12th season which began on August 25. Created by Adam Reed (Sealab 2021), the animated spy series is also executive produced by the creator alongside Casey Willis (The Gumball Machine) and Matt Thompson (Sealab 2021).
Archer centers on the absurd and outlandish adventures and missions of a ragtag group of secret agents for the fictitious International Secret Intelligence Service, or ISIS for short. The series stars H. Jon Benjamin (Bob’s Burgers) who voices the titular character Sterling Archer in addition to Amber Nash (Frisky Dingo) as Pam Poovey, Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty) as Cyril Figgis, Aisha Tyler (Criminal Minds) as Lana Kane, Lucky Yates (Frisky Dingo) as Dr. Kreiger, Judy Greer (Arrested Development) as Cheryl Tunt, Reed as Ray Gillette, and the late Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) as Sterling’s mother Malory Archer. In preparation for the 13th season, it is unknown how Walter’s character will be addressed following her death in 2021, yet, via Variety, this shall be addressed within the series in the remaining season 12 episodes.
Archer has been known to take on various new anthology themes for its spy-centric and James Bond parody genre. For example, the first four seasons maintained the regular theme before season five took on Archer Vice. Other iterations of this anthology setting include season eight’s Archer Dreamland, season nine’s Archer: Danger Island, and season ten’s Archer: 1999. Currently, it is unknown whether or not this same supplementary attribute will be given to the newly announced season. Additionally, it is unknown when production will begin for the 13th season.
New episodes of its 12th season drop Wednesday at 10 PM EST on FXX with next-day streaming being available through FX on Hulu.
