FXX Announces Season 16 Premiere Date For ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

The longest-running live-action comedy series in television history will launch its sixteenth season on Wednesday, June 7 at 10 pm ET/PT on FXX and streaming next day on Hulu. The show’s newest season will also be available to stream on Star+ and Disney+, via Deadline.

As one of the longest running sitcoms on television currently, this new season comes after the end of season fifteen in 2021. After the very emotional ending of that season saw Charlie (Charlie Day, Horrible Bosses) going in a special journey alone, it’s time for The Gang to have new adventures together.

The premiere will include the first two episodes, with a new episode each following week. The Gang is keeping it real by including current, real world issues such as inflation, US-Russian relations, mental health, gender equality, injury liability, gun control, as well as celebrity-branded products. But there’s nothing sweet about them as Mac (Rob McElhenney, Game of Thrones), Charlie Kelly (Day), Dennis Reynolds (Glenn Howerton, BlackBerry), Dee Reynolds (Kaitlin Olson, Coyote Ugly), and Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) yearn for the past as they attempt to survive in 2023.

At the end of the day, these characters are navigating the year 2023 with sixteen years of baggage . While the show has played around with different storytelling techniques over the years, it is refreshing to continuously see its attempts of staying up to date with what’s currently relevant, allowing it to run for so long.

Season 16 is executive produced by creator Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Michael Rotenberg, Nick Frenkel (The Cool Kids, Welcome to Wrexham), Megan Ganz (A Trip to Evergreen, The Last Man on Earth), Rob Rosell (Bless This Mess, New Girl), David Hornsby (The Goldbergs, Welcome to the Wayne), Scott Marder (Rick and Morty) and Victor Hsu (Freaks and Geeks) for FX Productions.
