The horror comedy series on FX, What We Do in the Shadows, will end with its sixth season, according to Deadline. The series is based on the 2014 feature film of the same name by Taika Waititi (Boy, Jojo Rabbit) and Jemaine Clement (Moana, Men in Black 3). What We Do in the Shadows follows four roommate vampires from Staten Island.
The vampires are named Laszlo, played by Matt Berry (Toast of London, The IT Crowd); Nadja, played by Natasia Demetriou (Pls Like, Stath Lets Flats); Nandor, played by Kayvan Novak (Big Mouth, Archer) and Colin Robinson, played by Mark Proksch (The Office, Better Call Saul), as they do their nightly shenanigans and find their way around modern-day Staten Island. They all share a human friend named Guillermo, played by Harvey Guillén (The Internship, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), who helps them adjust.
FX picked up the series for seasons five and six last year, with season six premiering on July 13 and ending on August 31. On the ratings side, according to Deadline, What We Do in the Shadows’s season five premiere saw views dropping by 35%, with an audience of around 326K tuning into the series. Season five continued to grapple to maintain its viewers, with about 275K views every episode. Conversely, during season four, the series saw an average of 356K views for each episode.
In general, the data, according to Deadline for the series is limited as it does not include any Hulu views, which is believed to be the most popular source for the show’s viewers. Regarding audience loss on FX, whether or not this series has made up for it is still being determined.
What We Do in the Shadows is produced by FX Productions, according to Deadline, and executively produced by Waititi, Clement, Paul Simms (Atlanta, The Larry Sanders Show), Stefani Robinson (Fargo, Atlanta), Garrett Basch (The Night Of, Reservation Dogs), Sam Johnson (Frasier, NewsRadio) and Eli Bush (Uncut Gems, Lady Bird).
The show obtained 10 Emmy nominations during its first two seasons, especially one for Oustanding Comedy Series. The third season of the series is presently eligible for Emmy consideration, as well as three Critics’ Choice Award nominations, one of which is for Best Comedy Series.
