The first trailer for Under The Banner Of Heaven, the new limited drama series being streamed exclusively on Hulu that is based on the best-selling true crime novel by Jon Krakauer (Where Men Win Glory), was released on Tuesday, via Deadline. The series stars Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) and is being created by Dustin Lance Black (When We Rise).
According to Deadline, Garfield stars as Detective Pyre, who is a cop and Church of Latter-Day Saints elder that resides in Utah and is committed to his family and faith. He is investigating a double murder that appears to be connected to a well-respected Utah family involved with the Church, which leads Pyre to start questioning some of the Church’s teachings through his contact with a suspect.
Garfield will star in the series alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones (War Of The Worlds), who plays Brenda, a Mormon who becomes the victim of the murder.
Under The Banner Of Heaven also stars Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation), Denise Gough (The Good Traitor), Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street), Billy Howle (Outlaw King), Gil Birmingham (Wind River), Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby), Rory Culkin (You Can Count On Me), Seth Numrich (Private Romeo), Chloe Pirrie (War & Peace), Sandra Seacat (Crazy In Alabama), and Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell On Wheels).
According to Collider, the only confirmed directors for the series so far are Isabel Sandoval (Apparition) and David Mackenzie (Perfect Sense), who will also be among the executive producers for the show.
FX Productions is producing the show with a list of notable names serving as executive producers along with Black and Mackenzie, per Deadline, including Brian Grazer (Friday Night Lights), Ron Howard (Arrested Development) and Anna Culp (Angels & Demons) for Imagine Television. Jason Bateman (A Teacher) and Michael Costigan (Stoker) will be executive producers for Aggregate Films. Gillian Berrie (Hell or High Water) will also be an executive producer.
It is currently unclear as to when Under The Banner Of Heaven will release on Hulu, but Deadline reports the series will be debuting sometime this year.
