FX Orders Anthology Series ‘Feud’ from Ryan Murphy

Ryan Murphy is swiftly becoming the king of anthology-style series on FX.

In addition to American Horror Story  and American Crime Story, FX has ordered Murphy’s new project, Feud, straight to series, Variety reports.

As an anthology series, each season will follow a different story. But we can probably expect to see actors and actresses recycled through the seasons, as is Murphy’s way. The overall subject of the series will follow famous feuds, but the eight-episode first season will tell the story of the fighting that occurred between famous actresses Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.

In 1962, Crawford and Davis joined forces to collaborate on a feature film named What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Both actress hoped the film would give new life to their careers. The feature was nominated for five Academy Awards and became a cult classic, but it also sparked feuding of epic proportions between the two leading ladies.

The series already has a star-studded cast lined up. Jessica Lange (American Horror Story) will play Crawford and Susan Sarandon (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) will play Davis. Alfred Molina, Stanley Tucci, Judy Davis, and Dominic Burgess have also been cast in the upcoming project.

“Ryan keeps re-inventing TV,” said John Landgraf, the CEO of FX Networks. “Feud adds a third and equally ambitious franchise to Ryan’s unprecedented slate of FX anthological limited series and marks our third such collaboration with studio partner 20th Century Fox Television/Fox 21. The series will offer a seductive, insightful look at what lies behind legendary personality conflicts.”

Additionally, Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Fox Television Group Chairmen and CEOs, said, “Ryan revolutionized the modern anthology with the American Horror Story and American Crime Story franchises, and he’s come up with another gem in Feud. With Jessica and Susan headlining, it’s already sure to be as flawlessly acted, wildly entertaining and fiercely provocative. It’s a fantastic project which only Ryan Murphy could deliver.”

Murphy and, believe it or not, Brad Pitt will executive produce Feud. The production on the project will begin this fall with the series premiering in 2017.
