A day after its first season finale, Sterlin Harjo’s (Love and Fury) Reservation Dogs has added series star, Devery Jacobs (The Order), to its writers’ room for season two, via Deadline. The actress who portrays Elora Danan – yes, named after the baby from Willow – will join an all-Indigenous writer’s room that will double in size and also add co-star, Dallas Goldtooth (Injunuity), who played the comical ancestor, Spirit.
Centered on four Indigenous teens surviving life on an Oklahoma reservation, the dramedy series received an early renewal during its eight-episode run. Along with Jacobs, the show stars D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Beans) as Bear, Paulina Alexis (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) as Willie Jack, and Lane Factor (The Fabelmans) as Cheese. Harjo executive produces the series along with Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows).
“She’s made films and it’s something that she’s always wanted,” Harjo told Deadline regarding Jacobs.“I found myself on set, sometimes we would lean on her, like there would be something that Elora Danan was going through and we would go to Devery for the answer and she would give us this very thoughtful answer,” Harjo continued according to Deadline.
Jacobs and Goldtooth will join a talented group of Indigenous writers and artists that helped shape the first season. Deadline reports co-executive producer Tazbah Chavez (Rutherford Falls), Bobby Wilson (The Daily Show), Tommy Pico (Resident Alien), and season one finale scribe, Migizi Pensoneau (Two Sentence Horror Stories), will all return to construct the next season, which is set to premiere in late 2022. New additions will include directors Blackhorse Lowe (Chasing the Light) and Erica Tremblay (Yellow Bird), as well as comedian Chad Charlie (Firecracker Bullets), and Ryan Redcorn.
“So, it’s very exciting to get all of them, to get this crew, “Harjo said via Deadline. It’s a bunch of friends and you know, as this show sort of expands and we move further into wherever we go, we have some big ideas. I’m just excited to get everyone in the room and get cracking on it,” Harjo told Deadline.
Harjo and the main cast recently appeared at Sunday’s 2021 Emmy Awards, presenting the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Limited/Anthology Series or TV Movie. All eight episodes of Reservation Dogs are available to stream on FX on Hulu.
