Fans have waited two years for Atlanta to return to their screens, and the show’s third season is closer. Star Donald Glover (Community) gave fans a Halloween treat with the first glimpse at Atlanta season three.
In a tweet titled “Happy Halloween”, Glover directed fans to a link where they found the minute-long trailer. The trailer was very cryptic, with various interior shots played along with a haunting background of Sun Ra’s “It’s the End of the World”. The trailer ends with a shot of Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) in a shirt reading “FAKE” with multiple servants in the background facing the wall.
Atlanta faced a shutdown that delayed production until 2021 due to complications caused by the pandemic. Season three and four of Atlanta were written and produced together, with one season taking place in Atlanta and the other in Europe, according to Deadline.
In 2018, Glover spoke about his vision of the third season at 2018 Emmys FYC screening. “I align the seasons I think, to me, like Kanye records,” he said, via Deadline. “I feel like this is our ‘Graduation.’ This is probably our most accessible but also the realest — an honest version of it — and I feel like the most enjoyable, like the third album. We were all on iMessage together and kind of talking about it, and I think people were really hungry to like beat ourselves, which is great.”
Atlanta season three is due for 2022. Check out the trailer below.
