According to Deadline, FX’s comedy series, English Teacher, will not have a third season. Brian Jordan Alvarez (Hailey’s on It!, Web Series: The Movie) created the series as well as starred in the first two seasons. His costars were Stephanie Koenig (Mid-Century Modern, Lessons In Chemestry), Enrico Collantorni (A Witch Named Agatha, Vacuums and the Whistling Pig), Sean Patton (Life After Bob: The Chalice Study, SXSW Comedy with Natasha leggero: Part Two) and Carmon Christopher (Wayne Brady’s What if with Jonathan Mangum, Carmen Christopher Live from the Windy City).
Deadline notes that Alvarez portrayed the character Evan Marquez, a millennial English teacher. The second season follows Marquez as he navigates the politics of teaching, students, and adult relationships at his local high school. Koenig plays his best friend, Gwen, and Patton portrays the gym teacher, Markie. Other characters included the guidance counselor, Rick, played by Christopher, and the terrified principal, Grant Moretti, played by Colantoni.
Deadline reported that FX took a long time before deciding to give a green light to season two of English Teacher. The decision to green-light the second season came four months after the finale of season one. Rotten Tomatoes gave a 98% rating for the first season and a 100% for season two. Season one also received award nominations at the Critics’ Choice Awards, the Film Independent Spirit Awards, and the WGA Awards. Season one was clouded in controversy when a former colleague of Alvarez, Jon Ebeling, made an alleged sexual assault claim against Alvarez.
According to Deadline, FX produced the series with Alvarez attached as executive producer along with Paul Simms (What We Do in the shadows, Atlanta), Jonathan Krisel (Ace Of Spades, Stupid Idiots), Dave King (Chad, Reboot), Kathryn Dean (Atlanta, Next Goal Wins), Jake Bender (Fallout, Bless the Harts) and Zach Dunn (Fallout, The Brothers Sims).
Both seasons of English Teacher are available to stream on Hulu.
