Netflix’s sci-fi thriller series, Alice in Borderland has reached a rare streaming milestone never seen on the platform, while simultaneously proving its enduring popularity. According to Screenrant, the plot of the series focuses on Rhoohei Arisu, played by Kento Yamazaki (Kingdom, Golden Kamuy) and various people transported to a bizarre version of Japan and competing in dangerous challenges.
According to Screenrant, this time around will be different, as it has been been three years late, Arisu and other returning contestants will partake in the joker tournament, who is determined to reunite with his wife, Usagi, played by Tao Tsuchiya (Orange, Matching). Now separated, the duo along with a new group will undergo new and life-threatening challenges, at the same time finding the mysterious figure behind the game.
Additionally, the finale concluded with a cliffhanger in which Usagi discovers she is pregnant, and Arisu is willing to sacrifice himself to save them both. However, it is Banda, portrayed by Hayato Isomura (Kamen Rider Ghost, Tokyo Revengers), who orchestrates a plan to trap Arisu within the borderland. As a result, the game declares Banda the winner and floods the city. Fortunately, Arisu manages to save Usagi and the others, but still trapped within the parallel world.
Stated by Screenrant, the live adaptation has consistently ranked among Netflix’s Global Top 10 for Non-English TV Shows, thanks to its recent release. Season three has reached the number one spot, amassing 46.3 million hours viewed, while season one is in eighth place with 13.3 million hours, and season two follows closely in ninth place with 12.7 million hours. This demonstrates that the show’s popularity continues to grow, despite its 63% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
A fourth season has not been confirmed yet, but it is likely to happen and may reveal the identity of the creator behind the games. All three seasons of Alice in Borderland are available for streaming on Netflix.
