Squid Game’s global phenomenon has broken records with its second season, which has been met with mixed reviews. According to Comicbook, the speculation from fans comes from the confusing cliffhanger in the finale, where the contestants started rebelling against the organization behind the game. The Front Man also sheds his contestant disguise and shoots Jung-bae, played by Lee Seo-hwan (The Beast), in front of Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae (The Acolyte).
Lee Byung-hun (Red 2), who plays the Front Man in the series, said in an interview with Comicbook, “I respect those opinions. In fact, no work can be free of criticism. I personally found it fun. I thought that director Hwang Dong-hyuk is a very smart person.”
Additionally, series director Hwang Dong-hyuk (Silenced) explained his idea behind creating the K-drama’s second and third seasons to Comicbook: “When I first wrote the story of Seasons 2 and 3 it was one long story arc. And I was originally planning to write this story across a span of about eight to nine episodes, but once I finished the story, it came to over 10 episodes, which I thought was too long to contain in a single season.”
According to Comicbook, the third season is currently in production and will be released sometime this summer. The news outlet teased that the contestants would return to play the other unknown, challenging games in the series. Information on what the remaining games will be based on is still under wraps, but this mystery keeps fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the release.”
