Eighteen years after the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender concluded, the franchise continues to grow with a new prequel project. According to Screenrant, a new graphic novel will explore the life of an underrated character, Jet, in Avatar: The Last Airbender — Jet: Rebels and Rhinos.
Reported by Screenrant, fans have previously witnessed the journey of Aang, voiced by Zach Tyler Eisen (The Backyardigans, The Ant Bully), to the transition of Korra, voiced by Janet Varney (The Legends of Vox Machina, Injustice), and the current live-action featuring Gordon Cormier (Lost in Space, The Stand). The live-action series is already in production of a second season, which will introduce Toph, who will be played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, His Darkest Minds).
Reported by Screenrant, the prequel provides a deeper dive into the origin of the Freedom Fighters’ leader. While information on what the prequel will include remains a mystery, it will surely showcase the young vigilante from his rough beginning in the Earth Kingdom, all the way to meeting future members of his group, which includes Longshot and Smellerbee.
According to Screenrant, the last time that fans have seen Jet was back in the 17th episode of the second season, in which he was fatally wounded in his battle with Long Feng, voiced by Clancy Brown (Spongebob Squarepants, Fallout), and then passed away off-screen. The upcoming project may reveal new details about the rebel team, including their past missions against the forces of the Fire Empire.
In other Avatar news, the upcoming animated film, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, is directed by Lauren Montgomery (Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Superman: Doomsday) and produced by the series original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino (Death Battle) and Bryan Konietzko (Avatar Spirits). Both the animated and live-action versions of Avatar: The Last Airbender are available to stream on Netflix, with the latter having a second and third season.
