Freeform has unveiled an all-new cast for the upcoming sophomore season of its newest mystery anthology series, Cruel Summer, according to Variety. The second season, which was executive produced by Jessica Biel (The Sinner) and Michelle Purple (The Book of Love), will feature Sadie Stanley (Kim Possible), Griffin Gluck (Tall Girl 2) and Eloise Payet.
The second season of Cruel Summer is set in the Pacific Northwest and follows the love triangle that arises from longtime friends Megan, Isabella and Luke in three different timelines surrounding Y2K. Stanley will play the role of Megan, who has a new vision on life after she meets Payet’s Isabella, who is spending a year living with Megan’s family. Gluck will play the role of Megan’s best friend, Luke.
The upcoming season will also feature KaDee Strickland (Private Practice), Lisa Yamada (All American), Sean Blakemore (Motives) and Paul Adelstein (Private Practice). Meanwhile, Elle Triedman (Too Young to Marry) will serve as showrunner.
The debut season of the anthology series, which premiered in 2021, starred Olivia Holt (Kickin’ It), Chiara Aurelia (Fear Street: 1978), Michael Landes (Hooten and the Lady), Froy Gutierrez (Initiation) and Allius Barnes (American Skin). Told over the course of three summers in the 1990s, the first season centered around a girl’s mysterious disappearance and another subsequently taking over her life.
