Free TV: Apple TV+ Originals Are Free To Stream January 3-5 [Updated]

For those who may have missed out on Apple TV originals, your chance at a free trial is coming soon. 9to5mac reports the streaming service is allowing access to its original content from January 3-5, just in time for the new year. No subscription is required.

According to 9to5mac, the young platform bolsters more than 250 original series and films in its catalog. Its most notable TV titles include the comedic feel-good hit Ted Lassodeep sci-fi adaptations Foundation and Silothe dramedy Shrinking, and the workplace mystery thriller, Severance.

Speaking of the Dan Erickson-created series, Apple’s free preview weekend occurs only two weeks before the second season premieres on January 17. Starring Adam Scott (Madame Web, Parks and Recreation), the show follows a group of employees who discover their employer is bound in a government-sized conspiracy.

Apple TV+ launched in November of 2019 at the ripe price of $4.99 a month. In its infancy, it bolstered the limited series, Defending Jacob, starring Chris Evans (Red One, Deadpool & Wolverine). The legal drama saw Evans play father whose teen son was accused of killing a classmate. It soon added other regular series such as The Morning Show with Jennifer Aniston (Friends, Murder Mystery) and Resse Witherspoon (Little Fires Everywhere, Big Little Lies); the fantasy drama See with Jason Momoa (Baywatch, Aquaman); the mystery series Truth Be Told starring Octavia Spencer (Luce, The Help); and, M. Night Shyamalan’s (The Sixth Sense, Trap) psychological thriller, Servant.

While the streamer’s shows are critically acclaimed shows, 9to5mac reports it remains behind in streaming statistics. Only a handful of its series held spots in the U.S. Nielsen streaming charts this year, where mainstays like Netflix and Prime Video frequent regularly.

Its largest success was found in the soccer comedy Ted Lasso, which concluded its three-season run in 2023, according to 9to5mac. Premiering amidst the COVID pandemic, Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers, Saturday Night Live) stars as fallen football coach who reprises his career coaching a football team in the UK. To date, the series has been nominated for 61 Primetime Emmy Awards, winning 11 including back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series awards. A fourth season is currently in the works.
