Marvel’s second Special Presentation has released its official trailer. Two days after the initial teaser, Jon Bernthal (We Own the City, The Bear) suits up as Frank Castle in The Punisher: One Last Kill. The tortured mercenary goes on a bloody journey to exorcise his demons — dead and alive. View the trailer below.
The minute-long clip opens with Frank in an empty room. The somber silence is filled with voices from his past; ghosts stolen from his bullet-heavy life. One of those ghosts is his daughter, who was violently murdered along with his wife by forces that betrayed him.
A familiar voice questions whether they’ll be forgiven for what they’ve done. But the voice soon turns sinister, manically taunting Frank that he’ll never find redemption. The other scenes show Frank battling new threats, as we see his empathetic side protect a young girl from danger.
Debuting in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil, the Punisher gained its own spinoff for two seasons. Bernthal’s Punisher returned to our screens in last year’s Daredevil: Born Again. The last we saw the vigilante, he escaped from Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin’s secret prison. Castle makes his MCU film debut in July’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The special was confirmed last April, with Bernthal writing along with director Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard, Southern Bastards). One Last Kill’s producing team includes Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige (The Avengers, The Thunderbolts), Louis D’Esposito (Captain America: The First Avenger, Wonder Man), Brad Winderbaum (X-Men ’97, Your Neighborhood Friendly Spider-Man), Sana Amanat (Ms. Marvel, Marvel Rising: Initiation), Bernthal and Green. Trevor Waterson (Jurassic World, Deja Vu) is co-executive producer with Eleena Khamedoost (Black Widow, Spider-Man: No Way Home) as supervising producer.
The Punisher: One Last Kill arrives on Disney+ on May 12, a week after Daredevil: Born Again’s second season finale. The special presentation marks 10 years since Bernthal first appeared as the titular character.
