Fox’s ‘Our Kind of People’ Adds Raven Goodwin and Nicole Chanel Williams to Fall Series

Fresh off releasing a second trailer, Fox’s Our Kind of People has added two more actors to the fall series’ cast. Deadline reports Raven Goodwin (Being Mary Jane) and Nicole Chanel Williams (Boomerang) have joined the Karen Gist (Durmline: A New Beat, Star) series starring Yaya DaCosta (Chicago Med, The Butler).

Executive produced by series writer Gist and Lee Daniels (Empire, The Spook Who Sat by the Door), Our Kind of People follows DaCosta’s Angela Vaughn, an enterprising single mother, as she attempts to join the ranks of an elite community of upper-class African Americans settled in Martha’s Vineyard. As an outsider, Angela’s presence is met with adverse friction. But a family secret will hold the key to who truly belongs in the affluent Oak Bluffs community.

Deadline reports Goodwin will play Josephine, a friendly and familiar face to Angela as they were college classmates. Josephine, with her connections already rooted in the ground at Oak Bluffs, will work to make Angela’s transition as smooth as possible. Williams is set to play Taylor, an open and fun-loving teen who welcomes the disruption Angela’s daughter – newcomer Alana Bright’s Nikki – brings to her inner friends’ circle. Taylor is the best friend of Lauren Dupont, played by Rhyon Nicole Brown (Lincoln Heights, A Throwback Holiday). Lauren shares a similar disdain for Nikki that her mother, Nadine Ellis’s (Let’s Stay Together, The Coalition) Leah Franklin-Dupont, has for Angela.

Along with these two additional cast members, the series will star Morris Chestnut (Rosewood, The Resident) as Leah’s husband, Raymond; Joe Morton (Scandal, A Different World) as Leah’s father, Teddy Franklin; Lance Gross (House of Payne, Crisis) as Tyrique Freeman; and, Kyle Bary (Ginny and Georgia) as the Dupont’s son, Quincy.

According to Deadline, the series is based on the book by the late Lawrence Otis Graham (The Senator and the Socialite: The True Story of America’s First Black Dynasty), Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class, published in 1999. The series is a production between 20th Television and Fox Entertainment along with Gist’s The Gist of It production company. Daniels produces via Lee Daniels Entertainment.

Our Kind of People premieres on Tuesday, September 21 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
