FOX To Step Up Its Comedy Push This Season

Fox is poised to recruit several developed Comedy shows into its rotation, Deadline has confirmed, and they’ll reportedly be moving them off cycle. According to Deadline, this shift is due to Fox not having any live action comedy shows scheduled for the Fall season, and attempting to fill the gap such a wide absence of comedic shows will leave on the network.

“We’re going to order a couple to several drama and comedy pilot episodes in January but we’re also doing off-cycle. We’re not going to do all of our ordering in January, our hope is to be completely off-cycle.” Fox’s Entertainment President Michael Thorn said to Deadline. “We’re looking at ordering things when they’re ready and backing off the traditional cycle and looking to set series up for success.”

One of the comedy’s Fox has put high expectations on is Carla, which is reportedly a multi camera comedy show from an association between Warner Bros. TV, That’s Wonderful Productions, Sad Clown Productions and BBC Studios. Carla will star the Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, and will be based on British comedy Miranda. Meanwhile, Housebroken, a half hour animated comedy series starring Lisa Kudrow, is set to be off cycled. Housebroken will also star the likes of Clea Duvall and Nat Faxon, and was created by Sharon Horgan, Clea Duvall, Jennifer Crittendon, as well as Gabrielle Allan’s and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Other comedy shows that Fox has purchased are marriage comedy People Person, Tough Love, Football Book Club, a US rendition of BBC comedy This Country, and an Ali Larter led single mom cheerleading comedy. Fox, of course, won’t be neglecting its drama line up either, as the powerful network is set to buy Nick Stoller and Carla Kettner’s Florida Man, Berlanti Productions’ Chain Of Command starring Jamie Lee Curtis, and a remake of British legal drama, Silent Witness.
