Serial killer drama Prodigal Son has been renewed for a second season on Fox. Starring Tom Payne (Malcolm Bright) and Michael Sheen (Dr. Martin Whitly), the continuation of the series follows the renewals of Last Man Standing and The Resident earlier this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Averaging a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 and racketing 5.89 million viewers, the series ranks third amidst Fox’s first year shows.
The series follows ex-FBI profiler Michael Bright, portrayed by Payne, who confides his serial-killer father, played by Sheen, to solve a mystery while simultaneously catching another killer. Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn commented Thursday, “From the moment Prodigal Son premiered, fans have been captivated by the astounding performances turned in by Tom Payne and Michael Sheen as they go head-to-head in one of most unique family relationships on television.”
With a multi platform audience of 8.9 million viewers, the fate of the rising series was dependent on the availability of actor Sheen. Going forward, the Prodigal Son is looking to appear in early 2021 as the Corona virus pandemic continues to delay Fox’s live-action scripted shows. Originally to be launched in the Spring or Summer Season, the Fall season will consist of holdovers Next and Filthy Rich and L.A.’s Finest.
Prodigal Son is a co-production of Warner Bros. TV, additionally staring Aurora Perrineau, Frank Harts, and Keiko Agena. The series is able to stream its entirety of season 1 in its entirety on Fox.com.
