The Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking over television!
At least, that’s what it feels like these days.
Today Variety reports that Fox has ordered a pilot for a new Marvel series from Matt Nix and Bryan Singer. The project is currently untitled but will tell the story of a set of parents who discover that their children have mutant abilities. To protect their children, the family ends up on the run from the government and joins a secret mutant organization.
The sources reporting this news are referring to the kids as mutants, but we are not sure how this series will fit into the grand scheme of the Marvel universe. 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television will co-produce the series and 20th Century Fox will be responsible for the physical production. 20th Century Fox and Bryan Singer also produced the X-Men film franchise, but it is unclear if this project (considering there are mutant children involved) will tie in with the X-Men films or not.
David Madden, president of Fox Broadcasting Company entertainment said, “Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe. There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”
President of creative affairs for 20th Century Fox Television, Jonathan Davis, also commented on the project, saying, “Working with Marvel on a television series for Fox has been a professional dream for our head of development, Michael Thorn, and all of us at the studio. Matt, Lauren, Bryan, Simon, Jeph and Jim are a powerhouse team of creative artists, and we can’t wait to get started on what will easily be one of this development season’s most exciting new projects.”
The untitled project from Fox is just part of the recent explosion of Marvel TV series. Netflix has Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders; ABC has Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and ran two season of Agent Carter; Cloak and Dagger is in the works at Freeform; and FX is preparing Legion which is also executive produced by Bryan Singer.
No casting announcements have been made for the pilot.
