FOX has ordered pilot from Lee Daniels. The tentative title for the show is, Our People. The show is about an engaged couple from two vastly different backgrounds. The man’s family does not know what privacy is and is from Africa; while, his fiancée’s family is from the Midwest. Both attempt to build a “normal” life together, but neither can agree on what a “normal life” actually is, per the official description. The show will have a cast of characters from several different families which live in Minnesota. This will include cheery Midwestern couples and African refugees.
The pilot of the show will be written by Vali Chandrasekaran (Modern Family, 30 Rock). The executive producers for the show are: Lee Daniels Entertainment, Chandrasekaran, Pam Williams, and Marc Velez. The original series’ creators Yossi Vassa, Shai Ben-Atar, and Liat Shavit. As well as, Endemol Shine Israel in association with Endemol Shine North America.
Daniels is also the co-creator of The Empire and Star. This will also be the fourth pilot that FOX has ordered from Daniels. The other shows are: Victory, East of Hope, and Mason Dixon. The show will be loosely based on the Israeli show Nevsu: A Young Multicultural Couple. It is also expected to be a half hour single-camera comedy.
