‘Foundation’ Season 3 Adds Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, And 6 Others As Series Regulars; Pilou Asbæk Joins In Recast

Deadline reports that Apple TV+ has completed the lineup for season three of the sci-fi series Foundation, introducing new regulars to the ensemble cast. Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) joins the series in a recast role as Warlord, also known as The Mule, taking over from Mikael Persbrandt (In a Better World), who portrayed the character in season two. Asbæk joins Emmy winner Cherry Jones (Succession), Synnøve Karlsen (Last Night in Soho), Cody Fern (American Horror Story), Brandon P. Bell (Dear White People), Tómas Lemarquis (Blade Runner 2049), Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing (Really Love), and Leo Bill (Becoming Elizabeth), alongside returning stars Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire) and Jared Harris (Mad Men).

In addition to the newly introduced cast, two previously announced additions include Troy Kotsur, who won an Oscar for CODA, and Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine). Foundation is created by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), who serves as co-developer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series.

Adapted from Isaac Asimov’s trilogy, the series delves into the epic journey of The Foundation, a group of outcasts who realize that defying the Galactic Empire is the sole means to prevent its demise. It tracks the narratives of four pivotal characters as they navigate through perilous crises, evolving allegiances, and intricate connections, all of which will shape the destiny of humanity across space and time.

Following the conclusion of season one, season two wrapped up in September 2023, leaping over a century into the future, where tension grips the galaxy. The Cleons face unraveling while a determined queen schemes to dismantle the Empire from its core. Hari, Gaal, and Salvor stumble upon a colony of Mentalics possessing psionic powers, posing a threat to the very fabric of psychohistory. Meanwhile, the Foundation undergoes a transformation into a religious entity, spreading the Church of Seldon across the Outer Reach and igniting the Second Crisis: a conflict with the Empire.

Jones takes on the role of Foundation Ambassador Quent; Karlsen portrays Bayta Mallow; Fern is Toran Mallow; Bell assumes the character of Han Pritcher; Lemarquis brings Magnifico Giganticus to life; Wong-Loi-Sing portrays Song; and Bill playsMayor Indbur.

Foundation, a production of Skydance Television, is overseen and executive produced by Goyer, with Bill Bost (World War Z), Jane Espenson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Leigh Dana Jackson (The Old Man), Roxann Dawson (Breakthrough), David Ellison (Top Gun: Maverick), Dana Goldberg (I Am Legend), Matt Thunell (Reacher), and Robyn Asimov (Foundation) also contributing as executive producers.
