Marvel fans are reeling with excitement with the release trailer to the highly anticipated Ironheart series. The series will focus on the journey of Dominique Thorne (Marvel Zombies, Freaky Tales), who returns as Riri Williams, and takes place after the events in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. We see within the trailer that Riri is a student at MIT but faces a setback that leads her path to cross with the Hood, played by Anthony Ramos (Hamilton, Twister).
The trailer opens up with Riri receiving a mysterious card, which leads her to pizza joint. She then is tested in an elevator, which she passes, and first encounters the Hood. Later in the trailer, we see that Hood recruits Riri into partaking in acts of violence, showing him and his crew infiltrating a top secret facility.
According to mxdwn, along with Thorne and Ramos, additional members within the series will include Lyric Ross (This Kid Us, Wendell and Wild) as Natalie, Riri’s best friend; Anji White (Fargo, 4400) as Riri’s mother, Ronnie; Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures, Cocaine Bear) as Joe McGillicuddy; and Manny Montana (Good Girls, Graceland) as Cousin John. These characters will be imperative to Riri’s journey throughout the show and try to get her to see the bigger picture, state her mistakes, and how she can fix them.
Beyond the action, the trailer hints at the heart of the series: Riri’s journey of self-discovery. She’s not just building a suit; she’s building her identity as a hero. This is seen with recreating her Ironheart armor from scrap, which is homage to Robert Downey’s Jr’s (Sherlock Holmes, Avengers) Iron Man. Riri will undoubtedly try to rectify her mistakes and to take down Hood, with the final battle being an intense fight between tech and magic.
Stunning visuals, a compelling storyline, and breakout performances from Thorne and the cast will surely make Ironheart a must-watch. The upcoming Ironheart series is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on June 24 at 6 p.m. PT/ 9 p.m. ET with a three-episode debut.
