HBO announced the return of musical comedians Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement for a Flight of the Conchords one-hour special this Spring. The exclusive special will be recorded before a live UK audience where the duo will perform new and classic tunes.
The New Zealanders first hit HBO in 2005 as a One-Night Special returning two years later with Flight of the Conchords series. The fictional show followed their fake lives in New York City earning ten Emmy nominations during its two brief seasons. The cult faves also earned a Best Comedy Album Grammy in 2008.
McKenzie and Clement have also enjoyed success apart from Conchords. Jemaine portrayed Boris the Animal in Men in Black 3 and more recently joined the cast of Legion. Bret stuck to music picking up an Oscar for the “Man or Muppet” tune in 2011’s The Muppets movie.
The May special will be directed by Hamish Hamilton with McKenzie, Clement, and Mike Martinovich serving as EPs.
