Amazon took the chance during this week’s New York Comic-Con to release the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi series, Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. Deadline recently reported that the company released the brand-new footage during a Comic Con panel on Friday, with cast members Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle), Jason O’Mara (Agents of SHIELD, The Good Wife), Alexa Davalos (The Man in the High Castle, The Chronicles of Riddick) and Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) all onstage for the panel.
Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams might in some ways appear to be Amazon’s response to Netflix’s increasingly popular sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror, which just snagged two Emmy wins for its episode “San Junipero”. But the trailer reflects that Electric Dreams might just grow to be a strong show in its own right and eventually escape constant comparisons to Charlie Brooker’s Netflix series.
The trailer includes some impressive visuals, and the show’s different episodes all seem to have some compelling concepts. Electric Dreams has a stellar cast to boot, including stars such as Bryan Cranston, Richard Madden, Steve Buschemi, Greg Kinnear, Janelle Monae, Vera Farmiga, and more.
The show’s title Electric Dreams is in reference to Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, which later served as the source material for Ridley Scott’s iconic 1982 sci-fi Blade Runner. Isa Dick Hackett, daughter of Philip K. Dick, was also in attendance at the Electric Dreams Comic-Con panel and is an executive producer on the Amazon series.
Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams will be comprised of 10 episodes. The show is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video some time in 2018.
